Provincial Taste In the July 16 issue of the Province, said paper’s Wine Guy James Nevison takes a break from the grapes and “riffs down the IPA aisle” stacking Phillips Amnesiac against Granville Island and Central City’s IPAs. Here’s what Nevison has to say. . . “Of course, if you’re a serious hop head looking for maximum IBU (International Bitterness Units), your IPA quest should lead you to Phillips’ Amnesiac Double IPA. As the Victoria-based brewery boasts on the bottle, a “mind-blowing amount of hops . . . ” went into this beer. The result is a hugely aromatic head buoyed by a malty underlay. This 8.5 percent ABV monster bites the tastebuds up front and keeps the intensity throughout, but thankfully manages to end nicely rich—and lingeringly smooth. Bottom line: A-. A sipping brew.”
